Job purpose

As an Encapsulation Operator in manufacturing/production, you will perform the operation of encapsulating pills.

Duties and responsibilities

• Set up the capsule machines with the proper tooling required as per the MBR specifications, and manufacturing directions, following the specific S. O. P for the department, guided by the cGMP’s.
• Reassembly of parts mentioned and filling of blended materials into the product hopper manually with a sanitary product scoop. Also, fill empty capsule hopper with capsules from supplier box/bag into the capsule hopper.
• Cleaning of the tabletop surface and machine guard doors and windows must be performed before reassembly occurs. Only a qualified operator or mechanic is authorized to make machine adjustments on segments, tamping rods, and pins. This is an expensive and complex, machine that requires precision adjustments.
• Adjust and set up the machine to obtain the proper fill weight of capsules as specified in the MBR.
• Notify maintenance and/or quality control of Any machine defects or problems with products in a timely manner.
• Operate and clean metal detectors (if available) and capsule polishers as necessary. Fill sanitary containers with finished capsules.
• Measure the Weight of in process capsules for adherence to product specifications and records results on the batch record.
• Visually inspects finished capsules for minor or major defects, including color shifts and particle size separation.
• Requires coordination with Quality Control on batch record signoff s and anything that violates cGMP’s or NSF quality controls.
• All tabletop surface areas and base cabinet walls must be cleaned, and sanitized.
• Accuracy and attention to detail is extremely critical.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a background check
• Willing and able to pass a drug test
• Attendance and punctuality are essential to this position
• High School Diploma/Certificate and one year of encapsulation experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Familiarity with the metric system
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems Involving several concrete variables in standardized situation.

The work performed is within an operational manufacturing plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to manufacturing environments which can include; exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, heat, cold, fumes and/or airborne particles, vibration, bright light and slippery conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be very loud.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands/fingers to handle/feel; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; pull; balance; carry; handle. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Ability to walk and stand on concrete surfaces for majority of workdays.
